Use of toysToys are a great way for your dog to interact and learn, both with and without you. Some toys, like the Orkas have many different uses. They can be stuffed with treats and also taken with you to the park or seaside as they float too !
Remeber your dog's function is survival and toys will be used to practice hunting for food. If your dog starts to "eat" his kill this, unfortunately is normal ! Dogs will naturally "rip" their quarry up after catching it. They need to be taught how to play nicely with toys, it does not come instinctively. Soft squeaky toys especially appeal to the chase and hunt instinct of your dog, whether you like it or not !
Always remember no toy is indestructable so always check your dogs toys for signs of wear and tear and discard if unsafe. If your dog is a powerful chewer or particularly good at getting the squeaks out of toys take time in your choice and if in doubt never leave your dog alone with them. Toys are also more at risk if your puppy is going through that "chewy stage". It is probably a good idea not to leave any toys with your puppy while you are not there while they are going through this phase. By all means play with your dog with the toys while you are there.
