About Us

The Dogs Frolics was started in 2001 due to problems with my eldest dog Sam. He was on a well known brand of premium dog food, with an excellent reputation as one of the best foods you could feed a dog. One day he developed a rash, like measles. He started to get ear infections and bite his feet so much he had to walk in boots as his feet were bleeding. He was under the vet for weeks, on tablets and shampoos, with no change. A suggestion from a colleage that it may have been the food led me to research dog food with alarming results.

I changed Sam's food and within days he was getting better. Not only that but he looked better than he'd ever done. As everyone knows, when your dog looks good everyone comes up and asks you what you are feeding. The new food was only sold by an independant pet shop in Southport. People asked if I would pick them a bag up when I went for Sam's.

I started to do that and also started to give advice in my dog club about feeding and how it affects health and behaviour. I also did many courses and read many books and articles on dog nutrition. As a result more and more people come to me with problems their dogs, many of which can be sorted with a simple change in diet. Eventually I approached the companies directly and asked to sell their food.

Even if your dog doesn't appear to have a problem changing them over to a higher quality diet will keep them healthier for longer. We know time is precious with our lovely dogs !

About The Food

You may not have heard of these brands before, they are generally not sold in supermarkets on a large scale basis.  This is to keep quality up and prices and overheads down.  If you are unsure of the brands please use the links page to visit the manufacturers and read all about the food.

Most of the dog and cat foods sold here are dry complete kibble. Tinned food is approximately 80% water. If you want to add water to our dry food, go ahead but don't pay for someone else to put it in a tin for you !

The accessories stocked are also to the same high standard. The ID tags are top quality materials and are milled, not engraved. This means the lettering lasts a lot longer. The tags also take up to 6 lines of text on both sides so you can put your mobile and vets details on as well as conventional details.

Most of the products here have been thoroughly tested and are in day to day use !
