Welcome to Liverpool G.S.D. & Training Club !We are one of the oldest dog clubs in Liverpool, orginally starting as a German Shepherd breed club. Today we offer companion dog training to all breeds. We are Kennel Club Registered which means we must abide by their standards and regulations for dog training clubs. We hold all the Kennel Club Good Citizens Dog Scheme tests. Our aim is to send pet dogs out into the world well behaved and with good manners.
If you are having specific problems with your dog please contact us. If it's something we can advise on we will, otherwise we will help you find someone suitably qualified to deal with your particular problem.
When you have a problem with your dog, try to remember what breed your dog is and it's intended purpose. Then have a think as to whether yoiu have inadvertantly enhanced this. For example
If you have a Dobermann or Rotweiller, this is a guarding breed. Have you left your dog alone with access to a window, gate or front door, where it can guard the house more easily. Do you live on a busy main road where the dog has more opportunity to "see of strangers" passing by and practice his guarding skills.? Your dog may also guard toys or it's bowl.
If you have a beagle this is a member of the hound family. It is bred to hunt in packs. Don't be alarmed if your dog is anxious while you are out at work and destroys the house or barks. Also it is more likely to run off in the park if it catches a scent. Beagles are probably not good pets unless there is someone around for most of the time and it is only left very short periods. You must also make sure you train a very good recall.
This applies to any breed you own. Spaniels will swim and chase birds. Terriers will chase small animals and dig. If you are house proud don't get a spaniel ! If you are someone who loves their borders it's probably not a good idea to get a terrier ! On the other hand you can teach a spaniel to chase balls instead of birds and you can teach a terrier to dig only in the scruffy part of your garden, but you must be prepared to put in the effort in training !
